The Finnish EU presidency gets a dose of Aalto visual food for thought
Finland will chair the EU Presidency Council with formal meetings set for Brussels and Luxembourg, and with more informal meetings being held in Helsinki at Finlandia Talo. During this time, Finland will be responsible for work on EU legislation, the policy initiatives of the Council and for ensuring the continuity of the EU agenda.
For the duration of the Finnish Presidency, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will host the informal meetings with competitiveness ministers, as well as various working groups and experts. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss topical EU matters and what better examples than that of climate change?
While the Fragile Water exhibition is staying put at its current home of Helsinki-Vantaa airport, the Materials Matter exhibition, which has been making the rounds since its debut at Slush 2018, has been given a new home at Finlandia Hall. Both displays are in excellent positions to catch a lot of attention from some very influential international decision makers.

Pirjo Kääriäinen, Professor of practice at the Aalto Department of Design, is happy that these exhibitions are getting such a high (and well deserved) profile during this prestigious occasion, 'No matter how digitalised our world will be, materials are crucial for our everyday life. We need to find ways to create a more sustainable material world. Clean water, fresh air, materials from renewable sources, and efficient recycling systems will ensure a better living environment for us all.'
The Materials Matter exhibition is a showcase of nine different research projects based on novel materials made in a sustainable, multidisciplinary approach, encompassing business, art and architecture and technology. The Fragile Water exhibition focuses on the human impact of water consumption, namely global and local freshwater consumption, with five different visualisations highlighting possible solutions.
