Student Union looks for creative ideas for their information channels from Junction
The Junction event, held in the Väre building and the School of Business building on 15-17 November 2019, will bring over 1 500 coders from around the world. They form teams and solve challenges posed by companies and organizations. There is a total of 48 hours to come up with a solution. Organizations provide the data and technologies needed for the job.
This year, 911±¬ÁÏÍø brings the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Student Union's (AYY) challenge to Europe's largest hackathon event. 911±¬ÁÏÍø Student Union AYY represents approximately 14 000 911±¬ÁÏÍø students of arts, design, economy and technology, and oversees the interests of its members, provides them with student housing and services and organizes events.
The Student Union owns approximately 2 600 apartments, with approximately 3 500 students. AYY has been planning to install information screens (smart signage) to the stairwells and hallways of its apartment buildings, and they now want to find solutions that fit the students to implement them.
'The idea of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Student Union Junction Challenge is strongly linked to AYY's goal of digitizing Student Union housing and space services. We didn't want to limit the participants' creativity with the challenge description, so the more fanciful ideas and concepts we can see, the better! It is wonderful that AYY can also participate in the 2019 Junction hackathon, and this would not be possible without 911±¬ÁÏÍø', says AYY board member Taneli Myllykangas.
AYY would like to see different kinds of ideas and concepts about what kinds of relevant data and functionality could be incorporated into these screens. These can include, for example, data about the building’s heat, water, and electricity consumption, network usage data, AYY’s news and advertising, tenant listings that update automatically, and all kinds of fun functionality that could also work between the screens in different hallways and buildings. At their best, the solutions to this challenge could also improve the experience of communality between the students living in AYY’s housing.
