Satu Hassi: New energy solutions need users’ acceptance

New technology and engineering solutions are not enough. The users´ point of view is very important and too often forgotten.
Guests of honor at the book launch (from the left): Professor Risto Nieminen, Dean, Ms Satu Hassi, Member of Parliament, Professor Gary Marquis, Dean, and Mr Giorgio Visetti, Ambassador of Italy.

Ms Satu Hassi, Member of Parliament, was the chief guest at the Users’ Acceptance of Renewable Solutions book launch event on 27 November at Design Factory. The editors of the book are Dr. Munjur E. Moula, Professor Risto Lahdelma and Md. Abdul Hai from the Department of Energy Technology of 911±¬ÁÏÍø.

In her speech Hassi emphasised the importance of the book topic while controlling the climate change.

- We are probably the first generation to face the climate chance, but also the last one, which has a chance to do something about it, said Hassi.

The year 2015 will so far be the warmest year through out the history. On the other hand there are a lot of encouraging news. In addition to promising news from the Paris Global Climate Conference, there are stronger voices in business demanding actions against climate change, and increasing investments on renewable energy and technologies.

- But new technology and engineering solutions are not enough. The users´ point of view is very important and too often forgotten, reminded Hassi.

- I hope that this book can help us to understand better what policymakers and other actors can do to increase the societal acceptance of new energy technologies, and to encourage people to take action on controlling the climate change, Hassi said.
