Perspectives on open data: Aalto Research Data Uncovered

We were delighted to wrap up this spring's RDM and Open Science training season with our new hybrid event, Aalto Research Data Uncovered, held May 16th at 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s Hybrid Stage.

The stage was graced by two researchers, Marika Tervahartiala and Kamyar Hasanzadeh, who were chosen via an open call for Aaltonians to share their research relating to open data. Hasanzadeh has worked on anonymising and opening geographic data, and Tervahartiala has an ambitious objective to explore ways of opening visual data in the form of digitised drawings.

To start off the presentations, we screened two introductory videos providing an audiovisual preview into our presenters’ respective topics. The videos were created for the researchers by Aalto Research Services’ Information Specialist Charlotte Forsgård, and co-produced by Senior Advisor and Data Agent Essi Viitanen.

The event was hosted by Data Advisor, Antti Rousi from Research Services. Attendees got to engage with the presenters during the Q&A session, and afterwards, had the chance to network over some coffee, tea, and ice cream.

A special thank you goes out to the wonderful Marika Tervahartiala and Kamyar Hasanzadeh for sharing their insights both on video and on stage. We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who attended the event, both in person at the venue and those who joined us through the livestream, as well as to the Aalto Studios production team for the technical execution of the livestream and stage operations.

If you missed the event or wish to revisit the presentations, the recording is available on the Aalto Research Services YouTube channel (link below).

Stay tuned for future events in our biannual RDM and Open Science training series as we continue to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and open science! The upcoming autumn training schedule will be updated on our training page in August.

In the meanwhile, we wish you a pleasant summer!

Companies disclose more on cybersecurity – but markets remain indifferent

U.S. companies are reporting on cybersecurity in greater detail, yet stock market reactions remain muted. A new study by the University of Vaasa and 911±¬ÁÏÍø shows that mandatory cybersecurity disclosure does not prompt reactions from investors or stock analysts. Instead, the main benefits appear to materialise within firms themselves.
