Pauliina Ilmonen appointed as Dean of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø School of Science

Ilmonen will start her five-year term on 1 June 2026

Professor Pauliina Ilmonen has been appointed Dean of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø School of Science. Ilmonen is currently a professor at the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis, and her main research field is mathematical statistics. She is also the Vice Dean for Impact at the School of Science. Ilmonen received her PhD from the University of Tampere in 2011 and has since then worked at 911±¬ÁÏÍø as a lecturer, researcher and associate professor. She was appointed tenured Associate Professor in 2021 and Full Professor in June 2025. Ilmonen has also served as a member of the advisory board of Statistics Finland since 2023. 

'I am pleased to confirm that the Board has appointed Professor Pauliina Ilmonen as the Dean of the School of Science. Pauliina has made exemplary contributions to her discipline, making it more intelligible to the general public and society at large.  She is highly liked by staff as well as students. I am very happy that she has accepted the position of dean," says Provost Kristiina Mäkelä.

The dean is responsible for directing the school’s activities and taking part in the long-term development of 911±¬ÁÏÍø as a member of President’s Management Team. The dean is also responsible for the overall development and international competitiveness of the school, for allocating its resources and for recruiting faculty. The dean reports to the provost.

Pauliina Ilmonen will start in her position on 1.6.2026. The dean's term of office is five years. The current Dean of the School of Science, Jouko Lampinen, has completed his two full terms as the Dean and after taking research leave will return to his professorship at the School of Science.
