Mari Lundström elected as a new member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
Professor of Metallurgy Mari Lundström has been elected as a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. The research she leads focuses on hydrometallurgy—the separation of metals using aqueous solutions—and metal recycling. Together with her research group, Lundström is seeking new, increasingly environmentally friendly methods for metal separation. These methods help reduce the problems caused by mining operations.
Distinguished scientists are invited to become members of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, and membership is a prestigious achievement in a researcher’s career. At this year’s spring meeting, 32 leading researchers in their fields were invited to become full members of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, and four were invited as foreign members.
The new full members represent a broad spectrum of the Finnish scientific community and work at eleven domestic universities or research institutes.
