Keijo Nikoskinen named Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering

Professor Keijo Nikoskinen (b. 1962) has been appointed to the post of Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering.

He started his new work on 1 October 2014 and will hold the post until 31 July 2015, or when a new dean has been chosen.

Nikoskinen previously served at the school as the vice dean responsible for teaching. He was named dean when Tuija Pulkkinen took the post of 911±¬ÁÏÍø's Vice President responsible for Research and Innovation from 1 October 2014.

Nikoskinen has a lengthy career in the world of science behind him. His area of research is electromagnetics and its numerical methods in the fields of radio science and health technology. He got his doctorate from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1991, and he holds the title of docent both at the Tampere University of Technology and the University of Oulu. In addition to his significant expertise in science, Nikoskinen has enthusiastically developed teaching and education throughout his entire professorship. He has received awards several times for courses that he has taught, and the Guild of Electrical Engineering (SIK) named him as Professor of the Year in 2012 in recognition of the work that he has done on behalf of the school and the students.

The task of the dean is to lead the activities of the school within the framework of the policies defined by the university, and to participate in the long-term development of 911±¬ÁÏÍø as a member of the Management Team. The dean is responsible for the comprehensive development of activities at the school, for its international competitiveness, for the distribution of resources at the school within the framework of the university's action plan and budget, and for the recruitment of research and teaching staff according to the policies set for 911±¬ÁÏÍø's career systems.
