911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s international students participated in the International Student Barometer (ISB) survey in November-December last year. This comprehensive survey measures student satisfaction, expectations and experiences in many ways, from applying for studies to graduation and seeking employment. The global survey was conducted for over 190 000 students at 146 universities in 17 countries.

High overall satisfaction

As many as 93% of 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s international students said they were satisfied with all aspects of their study experience and 89% of them would also recommend Aalto to their friends and family.

‘A big thank you to everyone who took part! I am very pleased with the 93% satisfaction rate. We work hard for students’ success and it is great to see this pays off,’ says Petri Suomala, Vice President of Education at Aalto.

In the survey, international students also highlighted various areas where there is room for improvement, for example in making friends with Finnish students.

The answers show that employability is important to international students – they value careers advice and opportunities for work experience. As for why students chose Aalto, future career impact, university reputation and reasonable study costs had the greatest influence.

The response rate was high: 37% of over 4 000 international bachelor's, master's and doctoral students, or a total of 1 500 students, answered the survey, including both degree and exchange students.

Feedback guides to improve services

The results of the survey will be used to improve the university's services and study experience. Aalto participated in the same survey last time in 2017, and based on it, orientation and career services were improved, among other things.

The International Student Barometer (ISB) is an international survey conducted by the British International Graduate Insight Group Ltd. At 911±¬ÁÏÍø, it is aimed at international students. The core questionnaire covered decision-making, arrival, learning, living, support, recommendation, employability and wellbeing. 148 universities from 17 countries participated in the survey, and 911±¬ÁÏÍø was involved in the Wave 2 group. The survey was open to Aalto students from 24 November to 19 December 2022.
