IEEE GRSS 2015 Education Award to Martti Hallikainen

Professor Emeritus Martti Hallikainen received the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) 2015 Education Award at the Plenary Session of the Society’s annual flagship conference IGARSS 2015, held 26-31 July in Milan, Italy. The citation was “In recognition of his significant educational contributions to Geoscience and Remote Sensing”.
The GRSS Education Award is one of the Society’s so called Major Awards and it recognizes an individual who has made significant educational contributions in the field of geoscience and remote sensing in terms of the innovation and extent of its overall impact. The award is presented annually to one recipient, provided a qualified candidate is nominated.
Martti Hallikainen worked as Professor of Space Technology at the Helsinki University of Technology 1987-2009 and at 911, Department of Radio Science and Engineering, since 2010 until his retirement in 2014. He served as President of GRSS 1996-1997, received the GRSS Distinguished Achievement Award in 1999, and was elevated to Honorary Life Member of GRSS in 2007.
