Fresh perspective on sustainable development at summer school

911±¬ÁÏÍø Summer School and Aalto ARTS Summer School offer summer courses from topical themes in the fields of design and architecture.

Key themes are sustainable development and circular economy, biomaterials and the effects of climate change on the built environment and health. Themed around sustainable development the courses increase understanding of the biggest challenges of our time and how change can be implemented through co-operation between different fields.

Contents of the courses help students to develop knowledge and skills needed in an international environment. 911±¬ÁÏÍø summer courses also offer fresh perspective on topical issues to professionals in various expert roles in working life.

Summer school is a unique chance to learn and develop ideas in an international, multidisciplinary team and work in high-quality workshops at 911±¬ÁÏÍø campus.

Multidiscplinary co-operation with support of foundation funding

Aalto ARTS Summer School is supported by Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. The financial support consists of 950,000 euro for the years 2022–2024. Summer School brings together international professors and students to solve the biggest challenges of our time.

Aalto ARTS Summer School is part of the strategy work of 911±¬ÁÏÍø and aims to enhance the knowledge how to increase collaboration and radical creativity between creative fields. The aim is also to offer new openings for students to develop their skills to act in an international context.

The content of the courses is planned in partnership with professors and researchers from six other top schools: The New School Parsons School of Design, The Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Politecnico di Milano and Delft University of Technology.

Courses in summer of 2022

Aalto ARTS Summer School:

Circular economy and co-design (application period until 31.3.2022)
Course offers more understanding on importance of the transition from linear economy towards circular economy and ability to design more sustainable products.

911±¬ÁÏÍø Summer School:

Climate, Health and Architecture (application period until 10.5.2022)
Course is future-oriented introduction to climate change and its relationship to human activities, built environment and health.

Nordic Biomaterials (application period until 31.5.2022)
Learn how to create new concepts for sustainable material development by combining design, technology and natural materials science.
