Fabian Ahvenainen Foundation grants awarded to students of bridge and structural engineering

The grants were presented at the Aalto Civil Engineering Day event hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering on 7 March 2019.

The Fabian Ahvenainen Foundation at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø School of Engineering awards grants every year to students and recent graduates specialising in bridge engineering or structural engineering and building physics. This year, the foundation awarded a total of 9 000 euros in grants to the following:

  • Vera Babiczky, MSc (Tech.), bridge engineering â‚¬1 500
  • Yiwei Liu, MSc (Tech.), structural engineering and building physics â‚¬1 500
  • Sebastian Muuronen, BSc (Tech.),structural engineering and building physics â‚¬1 000
  • Safi Ur Rehman, MSc (Tech.),bridge engineering â‚¬2 000
  • Marko Seitsonen, BEng,structural engineering and building physics â‚¬1 000
  • Suraj Rana Bhat, MSc (Tech.),bridge engineering â‚¬2 000

The award grounds for Safi Ur Rehman and Suraj Rana Bhat were their master's degrees with distinction and their excellent master's theses. Muuronen and Seitsonen received grants in support of their success in master's-level studies, while Babiczky and Liu were recognised for their superb performance in completing their master's degrees and excellent master's theses.

The keynote speech of the event was given by Vice President Timo Saanio of A-insinöörit Oy.

About the foundation

The Fabian Ahvenainen Foundation was inaugurated in the Helsinki University of Technology in 1998 with a donation given by Jaakko Ahvenainen in memory of his father, Fabian Ahvenainen. Jaakko Ahvenainen later added to his donation twice and also included the foundation in his will. The aim of the foundation is to award grants to students of bridge engineering and structural engineering and building physics, especially to promote constructive civil engineering. In its twenty-one years of operation, the foundation has awarded a total of 150 840 euros in grants.
