Eero Vaara's article rewarded as best in Organization and Management
Professor Eero Vaara has received the Academy of Management (AOM) award for the best article published in 2014 in the field of 'Organization and Management' for an article he co-wrote with Joep Cornelissen (Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University) and Saku Mantere (Hanken).
The award is notable as the selection process involved the assessment of all articles published in the field globally during the year.
In accordance with the assessment grounds, the awarded publication advances in a meritorious manner theoretical understanding of organizations, organizing and management.
The research focuses on the tragic series of events in which a police terrorist unit shot a perfectly innocent man, Jean Charles de Menzes, on the London Underground. Theoretically, the research paper explains from the sensemaking point of view how the different police parties involved gradually committed to an erroneous conception in their mutual communication.
The award was granted at the 75th Annual Meeting of the Academy on 7–11 August 2015 in Vancouver. The award was granted for the first time in 2010.
