911±¬ÁÏÍø is constantly following the employment situations of its graduates. Also this autumn, two groups, those who completed master's degrees in 2012 and those who got their doctorates in 2014 have been requested to answer questions about their careers. Career surveys are carried out by Aarresaari, a career services network shared by Finnish universities.

Developing the content of teaching to meet requirements of changing work

Work and the skills and knowledge it requires are undergoing rapid change. Graduates need to apply what they have learned in changing tasks at work. Universities are giving careful consideration to the content of their teaching, hoping to make sure that it corresponds as closely as possible to the requirements of the work now and in the future. The results of the career survey will provide an important foundation for this planning. The information is useful also for today's students and doctoral candidates in the planning of their careers, while providing vital information about the world of work.

The survey asks, for instance, if graduates feel that their jobs correspond to their education, and if they are satisfied with their degrees. In addition, the question is raised what kind of knowledge and skills the graduates feel today's students should acquire.

Aalto graduates satisfied with their degrees

The Aarresaari network has conducted career surveys since 2005 and the results offer an excellent package of knowledge on the labour market and work careers affecting those with an academic background. The results of a survey conducted last year revealed, for example, that nearly three out of four 911±¬ÁÏÍø graduates who graduated with master's degrees in 2011 are employed in jobs that correspond to their education. Information on how the graduates placed on the job market has also been compiled in the töissä.fi service.
