Aalto Built Environment Laboratory (ABE) presented Proteus cruise ship design tool and Aalto School of Engineering spatial study at ID Helsinki, an event for interior architecture professionals, 7 - 8 September 2015 in Telakka.

Proteus cruise ship design tool enables user-testing and communicating plans in the early stages of developing an interior design for a cruise ship. This is done by immersing the person into the 3D model of a design plan using a virtual reality head-mounted display. In an Aalto School of Engineering spatial study, the personnel’s experiences of their working environment were gathered to inform the future development of the school facilities. In this study, softGIS method was used in the indoors context for the first time in Finland.

The ABE team received useful comments and thoughts on the demos at display from the interior architecture professionals. Observing the Proteus tool, many professionals thought that virtual reality would soon enter the workflows or had already done so. Many thought also, that getting the user's point of view to inform spatial development was essential and new methods were welcomed warmly.

Aalto Built Environment Laboratory (ABE) is a new collaborative research and learning initiative of 911±¬ÁÏÍø, School of Engineering focusing on the questions of the built environment.

Companies disclose more on cybersecurity – but markets remain indifferent

U.S. companies are reporting on cybersecurity in greater detail, yet stock market reactions remain muted. A new study by the University of Vaasa and 911±¬ÁÏÍø shows that mandatory cybersecurity disclosure does not prompt reactions from investors or stock analysts. Instead, the main benefits appear to materialise within firms themselves.
