911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s Art & Design now 7th best in the world
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, with 48 disciplines, has been published. In the field of Art & Design, 911±¬ÁÏÍø climbed to 7th position, improving its ranking from last year by two spots. In Architecture / Built Environment, Aalto stepped up from 46th place to 42nd.
‘Reaching 7th place in the field of Art and Design is a tremendous achievement for us, since global competition is strong. It is great to be recognised for our community’s skills and expertise,’ says Anna Valtonen, Dean of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
911±¬ÁÏÍø reached the top 100 in the field of Business & Management Studies as well. Like last year, Business ranked in the range of 51–100.
911±¬ÁÏÍø ranked 101–150 in the following subjects: Computer Science & Information Systems, Civil & Structural Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Accounting & Finance and Communication & Media Studies.
In the subjects of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering, Economics & Econometrics and Environmental Sciences, 911±¬ÁÏÍø placed among the top 200.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject emphasise both the university’s reputation in the world of academia and among employers, as well as research publications and references. The weighting of these factors varies between subjects.
The QS World University Rankings also compares universities overall. In the previous general ranking, 911±¬ÁÏÍø reached spot 140. In its June 2018 ranking of universities established less than 50 years ago, Aalto placed 9th in the world.
As 911±¬ÁÏÍø specialises in technology, business and arts, rankings by field or subject are most meaningful for the university. Depending on the calculation method, there are approximately 17 000–22 000 universities in the world.
