911±¬ÁÏÍø becomes a member of Climate Leadership Coalition

The organisation aims at affecting the ability of companies and society to respond to climate change.

Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC) was founded by leading Finnish companies and research organisations for the purpose of significantly accelerating the development and implementation of solutions that control climate change. Founded in 2014, the coalition has 43 members.

‘Climate change and scarcity of natural resources are such complex challenges that no one can solve them alone. We want to cooperate with companies and the rest of society to increase understanding of the solutions that are needed to build a sustainable future. CLC’s activities support this goal very well,’ says President of 911±¬ÁÏÍø Ilkka Niemelä.

‘In 2018, CLC will focus on developing international and Nordic projects aimed at carbon neutrality in the forestry, agriculture, energy and transport sectors and on activating citizens to make pro-climate choices. 911±¬ÁÏÍø strengthens our expertise significantly,’ says Jouni Keronen, Executive Director of Climate Leadership Coalition.

The university’s goal is to build a sustainable society driven by innovation and entrepreneurship. For example, climate change, material efficiency and the circular economy are being studied in a multidisciplinary manner by several research groups at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. In practice, Aalto’s CLC membership would be visible as, for example, cooperation between research groups and the CLC corporate network. Examples of projects related to the theme at Aalto include the research project, Impact Iglu's entrepreneurship programme, and the EU’s initiative.

Aalto Sustainability Hub was founded last autumn to bring scientists from different fields together and to promote the inclusion of sustainable development in teaching, entrepreneurship, campus development and other 911±¬ÁÏÍø activities.
