About the building

Vuorimiehentie 2, designed by Märta Blomstedt and Olli Penttilä, was completed in 1964. The modernization work of the building’s Kemistintie part was finished in the end of October 2019 and the common facility project Circular Raw Materials Hub started its operation in the beginning of 2020. Space 21, providing free project and studio space, opened in March 2022

Circular Raw Materials Hub

The project to develop a shared facility for 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s Department of Materials Science, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Geological Survey of Finland will lead to significant research cooperation on inorganic materials. Circular Raw Materials Hub offers an excellent opportunity for intensifying cooperation and networking, as well as for creating a unique center of competence in utilizing streams of raw materials, among other things. The shared use of facilities, devices and research infrastructure is also cost-effective.

Space 21

Space 21 is for unexpected ideas, outcomes and encounters. It is a cluster of rough, free project spaces that Aalto offers to encourage experimenting and creative collaboration within its community. Students, staff and faculty are all equally welcome to make their ideas reality, let their radical creativity flow free and explore the realms of unexpected.
