The ARTEFAKTI Team sits down with the faculty of 911������’s Master’s in Contemporary Design to discuss the origins of the programme, students’ expansive outcomes, and the common values that underscore its teachings. We also talk about how we interpret contemporary design and the way it factors into the wider field of design.

The EU Commission’s initiative New European Bauhaus has created the NEB Academy to enhance the development of skills around sustainable construction.

The LuoTo project brings together sustainability projects in the creative industries and sets out concrete steps for the creative industries' transition to an ecologically sustainable, low-carbon future.

The Lux Helsinki light art festival 3-7 January 2024 will bring science and art together as artists Teemu Lehmusruusu and Roberto Fusco link their work to the CO-CARBON project's research data.

The fourth student workshop, Mythology: Nature, of an EU-funded 5-country Erasmus+ Cooperation partnership project DIMYMYDI Digital Mythologies - Mythological Digitalities was arranged at the Aalto Arts during 3-8 December 2023.

The second Architecture & Film course offered architecture students an opportunity to reflect and understand the fundamentals of the field through films.

A typical problem in teamwork is an imbalance in participation – a few team members are active but not everyone's voice is heard. The Visentools project uses visual tools and haptic feedback to make workshops and team meetings more participatory and meaningful. The project is funded by Business Finland and has been piloted since May.

In August 2023, a smart bus project in Kalasatama challenged the traditional art installation format. An audio piece heard inside also created vibrant natural soundscapes in the midst of the city's infrastructure.

The professorship will focus on the study of individual creativity.

Shapes in Action is a book for all those interested in interdisciplinary research and education.

In September 2023, the ANTI-Festival in Kuopio hosted three events organised by students from the Department of Art and Media, offering an interesting journey into participatory public art.

'The protesters were in the lobby for a week, and it didn't matter, quite the opposite. But the School of Business and the School of Arts and Design are a bit like fire and water, there's a difference in cultures between the two.'

What should we do with discarded books which paper quality and ink composition vary greatly? The study showed that processing discarded books into textiles is possible, but it turned out to be costly with its own environmental impact.

'The tiny reminders made me question myself: what am I doing here? What is my purpose here? Back then, the office was not ready to welcome me. It was scary to admit openly that I don’t feel included, and I needed someone to recognize that and stand behind me.'

The Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum Architecture and Design of the Year awards were presented in Athens on 6 October 2023. Esa Vesmasen and Akira Minagawa's Sieni table light is a fusion of Finnish and Japanese design, creating a captivating blend of cultural influences and design philosophies.
