Open Call: Stakeholder Workshop on Circular Construction and Building Component Reuse
In this event, we are committed to 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s principles for a safer space.
The workshop will be held at 911±¬ÁÏÍø in September 2026 and organised as part of the work package ReType – Solutions for the Reuse of Building Components in Helsinki. The project examines the Posti headquarters and sorting terminal in Pasila, Helsinki, as a pilot case for building component reuse. The existing office and industrial buildings, currently scheduled for demolition, will be studied as potential donor buildings for yet-to-be-defined receiving contexts.
The workshop will explore the relationship between donor buildings and potential receiving buildings through the following questions:
- What outcomes can be envisioned using the reusable parts identified in the examined donor building in housing and public buildings?
-
What design information is needed to enable the reuse of building components across donor and receiving buildings?
When and where?
The workshop will be arranged on 22 September 2026, 13:00–16:00, in the recently constructed Marsio building at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø campus in Otaniemi.
The workshop coincides with 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s biggest exhibition of the year, Designs for a Cooler Planet, taking place in the lobby of the same building. This offers participants an opportunity to visit an exhibition showcasing students’ and researchers’ fresh perspectives, bold experiments, and practical solutions designed to change the world.
Who is the workshop for?
We welcome professionals, researchers, and teams working with circular construction, including:
- AEC practitioners — architecture, engineering, and construction
- Circular construction and building reuse specialists
- Building survey and condition assessment specialists
- Demolition, deconstruction, and material flow professionals
- Consultants, public-sector actors, and other stakeholders involved in design, procurement, regulation, or implementation
We encourage registration from diverse organisations and professional backgrounds. International participants are welcome. The primary language of the presentations and workshop will be English; however, participation in Finnish will also be possible.
Registration
Please register for the workshop by 15 September 2026 through the following link:
If several people from the same organisation wish to participate, we kindly ask each participant to register separately. Further information and workshop instructions will be provided upon registration.
About the workshop series
This workshop is the first of two stakeholder workshops organised within the research project. The second workshop, to be announced in a later call, will address the feasibility, limitations, and implementation challenges identified in the proposed reuse solutions.
Further information about the ongoing research project can be found on the project website.
