I know wood, but I don't know tree

by Yongsub Shin

There is a certain vitality in materiality. Rather than confining the wood into a plain box, perhaps it is better to give it freedom leaving room for it to breathe and expand. When a tree falls, it cracks over time, opening paths for fungi or insects to decompose. As a craftsperson, would it be better for the world if I simply guide the path of its materiality? Can we become fungi? Being connected, not sitting alone but together, decomposing the wood with hearts.
