Co-creating the future of teaching and learning
The urgency for new approaches in teaching and learning has been identified at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. Teaching Lab – a platform and a concept for designing teaching and learning – has been developed to meet the needs of the future of work. The platform, which is still taking shape, will provide Aalto community with the needed resources, materials, and tools.
Evaluation and feedback processes in teaching and learning
911±¬ÁÏÍø takes part in national and international evaluations, audits and benchmarking activities, and self-evaluates its own planning and implementation processes in the areas of teaching and learning. In addition, Aalto monitors its students’ academic progress, graduation and employment, and collects feedback on the quality of education and learning from employers and graduates. Internal and external evaluations are conducted in accordance with a multiyear evaluation programme.

Research
From an artistic and design perspective, the research subject of the Media Lab is digital media, how is it created and used and what is its potential impact in society. Our research engages in practical and theoretical activities covering both traditional and new categories in non-conventional ways.
Media Lab Demo Day
Already in the late 1990s we adopted the slogan, ‘hands on with minds on’ to explain our work. We also adopted the ‘demo or die’ attitude of other Media Labs and formalised this into bi-annual Demo Day, organised at the end of each term.
About us
The Media Lab Helsinki was founded in 1994 and is now a part of the Department of Media at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø, Helsinki, Finland. The mission of the Media Lab is to explore, discover and comprehend the new digital technology and its impact in society; to find and exploit the possibilities it opens to communication, interaction and expression and to evaluate, understand and deal with the challenges it poses to design and creative production.
Latest Theses
The theses from the Media Lab are on public display at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø library as well as some of the latest ones also online. First recorded theses are from 1995 up to this date.
